The Current Landscape

Women and girls are severely under represented as Match Officials in Wales. Only 3% of all our referees are female. Despite this lack of female referees, 3 of our 12 FIFA list Match Officials are female.

One of them, Cheryl Foster, has been selected to referee at the UEFA Women’s EURO Finalsthis Summer. Cheryl is a visible role model capable of inspiring more women and girls to pick up the
whistle. The EURO tournament is therefore a golden opportunity to promote refereeing to women in Wales.

We will seize this opportunity by hosting two refereeing events for women and girls during the tournament.

The first will be at Colliers Park in Wrexham on the 9th of July and the second will be in Newport at Dragon Park on the 17th of July.

New female referees will attend their chosen event to
complete their practical course, network and take part in a development workshop with other female referees, and watch a EURO group stage game together. We’d like your support to help promote these events as we strive to significantly increase the number of female referees across Wales.

Itinerary: Colliers Park, Wrexham, Saturday 9th July, 13:30-20:00
• 13:30 Meet at Colliers Park

The £25 Advanced Referee Award does not include referees’ kit whereas the £70 Advanced Referee Award does include kit. This is the only difference between the two Advanced Referee Award courses.
